If you’re reading this post, you are probably looking for how you can get free prizes simply by watching Shorlan’s stream.

The method is simple:
I will be giving away prizes to my fellow fans and followers.
Once per week, I will be announcing on the livestream the task you need to perform to win a prize. All you have to do is watch the Livestream.
How do you know when I’m streaming? I will put up a post on Reddit, and a tweet on Twitter at the start of each Livestream. I will also announce on my stream when you can expect the next prize giveaway to occur. Shortly after the stream ends, I will submit it up to YouTube for everyone else to view and review it.
It will be useful to keep half an ear on the stream. I might give away a key at any time over the stream for all the fans watching. How will you know? I will tell you, “This is important. Note this down.” and later on I will tell you what to do with it to win free stuff.

  Teleport

Unlocked at level 18
Type: Utility

Cost: 15 Arcane Power
Cooldown: 16 seconds
Description: Teleport through the ether to the selected location up to 35 yards away.

The base Teleport spell comes with a relatively small cost, but a fairly lengthy cooldown. This spell allows the Wizard to travel to any point up to 35 yards from their current position.

Initially, this is a great spell for quick mobility, positioning, and getting you out of corners and jams with ease. The instant mobility of this spell can improve survivability in situations that most other classes would have a hard time avoiding and surviving.

No complex game development theories today folks. We’re just going to jump straight in to the thick of the rest of these changes which were made for Diablo 3 Beta Patch 5 – v.0.3.1.7728.

I apologize for the long delay, but every now and then I get the unfortunate distraction of non-D3 games and material (This time was a graphically stunning game called Metro 2033!)
Luckily the distraction was over after one long day/night of constant playing but the break put me off long enough to delay my post to you. =(

But enough talk Shorlan!

When developers are busy developing and coding and reworking various in-game things, you need to take in to account what features take priority. While a lot of people will leave a comment to raise an issue about a particular aspect of the game they didn’t like, very few actually let it stop them from purchasing or continue playing the game.

There is a drastic difference between a low-impact fault and a high-impact problem. At the end of the day, the sales and performance and therefor success of the game is based purely on a relation of expectation vs result.

Example:
Releasing new content on the Diablo 3 site improves reader interest, shows working progress and displays a clear concern for how players perceive the game.
Take for instance the new additions of the Followers to the Diablo 3 game guide. This is new content. People get new skills to view, new shiny models to look at, and new descriptions to drool over and imagine various killer combinations with.
The more time a potential customer thinks and wonders about a specific game, the more positive interactions they have with the idea of the game which will likely result in a desired product buyer.

Every creator suffers from last minute changes; whether that means rewording the bendy truth in your English essay, or tuning some final values as you overclock your brand new PC.
We all suffer from scrapping one idea and throwing it away for a fresh one. Companies are not immune to that cold sweat which breaks out when you realize the now obvious mistakes you made at the drawing board.

We’re going to start a series to discuss the small handful of changes made recently in the Beta for Diablo 3 Beta Patch 5: v.0.3.1. 7728.
Some changes are bigger and bolder than others. Most are just a realization that an original path is not panning out in terms of viability as they thought it would.

From the perspective of this humble blogger, Blizzard is used to a nice structured tree that players can pursue. Most except the bravest Real Time Strategy (RTS) games have a tech tree and structure economy with military production. This is a staple for the typical Blizzard RTS from the Starcraft or Warcraft game series.
World of Warcraft nowadays has been tuned to be extremely structured and rigid in your choices (Tank build, DPS build or Caster build). When it comes to an unstructured tree of player’s decisions, you’ll typically find that Blizzard prefers to keep a tight reign on the direction players head. Why?

The following will provide what is currently implemented for artisan crafting with the Blacksmith in Diablo III Beta:

Crafting materials in Normal:

  •   Common Scrap – Disenchanted from common items. Chance to drop as mob loot
  •   Subtle Essence – Disenchanted from Magical items. Small chance from Common items.
  •   Rare Tooth – Disenchanted from Rare items. Small chance from Magical items.
  •   Petrified Bark – Disenchanted from Legendary items. Small chance from Rare items

Items can be disenchanted using the Nephalem Cube which is unlocked in Act I as part of a quest.
The Blacksmith artisan is unlocked from a chain quest in Act I. He will allow you to repair the durability on your equipment, which erodes with use, at the cost of gold.
He also is able to craft weapons and armor. Each player’s account shares the Blacksmith’s crafting recipes and levels. Your Blacksmith’s recipes and levels is kept separate from other players’ Blacksmiths.

The Blacksmith is able to obtain more crafting recipes in the following ways:

  1. Item ‘Page of Training’ has a chance to drop as loot. 5x  ‘Page of Training’ can combine in to a 1x ‘Tome of Training’. A Tome of Training is one ingredient required to have an artisan obtain more crafting recipes.  The ‘Tome of Training’ can be used on any one of the three artisans: Blacksmith, Jeweler, Mystic.
  2. Random recipes will drop as loot.

The Blacksmith is able to craft items using a combination of crafting materials and gold. The Blacksmith must have learned the recipe in order to craft the item. Based on the information available at the Diablo III Community Site there will be crafting items and crafting materials available for each level of difficulty. Some Legendary and Set items will even be crafted through the Blacksmith. It is unknown whether these craftable high tier items are only obtained through crafting or if they can also be dropped as loot.

Personal Analysis:
In general, the Artisan Crafting system seems like it will take a great deal of time and commitment to level up. A dedicated guild will designate a single account to handle one or more of their Artisan crafting responsibilities to filter Page/Tomes of Training and crafting materials to the higher leveled artisan. A solo player will find that it will take many, many, many (x3 or more!) times longer to skill up their own artisan for personal use.

Given the amount of time and dedication it would take for a single player to craft their own set and legendary armor, it is feasible that a dedicated and organized crafting guild can make excellent money by being the initial provider of top tier crafted gear. A crafted guild could feasibly weigh guild participation based on the amount and quality of crafted materials and tomes a player provides to their designated artisan accounts. Points can be traded for set pieces while extra materials go towards the guild coffers.

Note: This content is from experience playing the Beta release of Diablo III. Actual implementation is subject to change before and after full release.
